Edisto part 1

We spent a wonderfully recharging two weeks at our beloved Edisto Island. In order to share all of the images from the trip that I would like, I will divide them into two posts.  This first group features plein air watercolor paintings. For these paintings I had with me a 10 x 14 inch Arches watercolor block and a 9 x 12 Kilimanjaro watercolor sketchbook that had only a few pages left unpainted. 

​The painting above was done at Edisto Beach State Park. Although the campground is still closed due to last fall's hurricane damage the park itself is still a beautifully peaceful place to spend an afternoon.

This is one of the many marsh views from a small park on Jungle Road.

And it was here I did a painting of that view.

I did not get the sky painted the way I wanted to, so I finished the painting without expectations and was later pleased with it after all.

We selected our rental cottage solely for this marvelous screened porch. All four of us beach goers work on our art here and this porch gave us plenty of room to spread out. Of course the sounds of the rustling palms along with the birdsong adds just the right creative mood too.

And whenever you get artists together there is inevitably a painting challenge. This year it was a red onion from the local market.

I also brought along a 7.5 x 9.5 Strathmore 500 series mixed media sketchbook with the intent to use it for a special project. I will share images from that sketchbook in my next post.
