Storm Coming, acrylic on paper, 12 x 18 inches
I have been feeling overwhelmed by color lately. In order to reign in that feeling and regain a sense of control when it comes to color choices, I have set myself the challenge of working with a limited palette.

Here is the color palette I am currently working with: titanium white, raw titanium white, hansa yellow light, alizarin crimson, and phthalo blue.

What I am finding with this experiment is more freedom.

Strawberry Moon, acrylic on paper, 12 x 18 inches
This palette is working out well for me right now and it may be a while before I include some of those convenience colors again. By getting back to a palette of primaries, I find I have more options, not less.

**There is a brand new edition of Notes on Painting available as a PDF file free for you to download. You can find it over there on the sidebar. This month's article is all about the use of line in visual communication.  I  enjoy the challenge of adding line and mark making to my painting compositions as they are such a direct response to the surface. How do you use line in your art?

***And while you are over there at the sidebar take a moment to sign up for my newsletter! The first newsletter is on track to be published August 1st and will include the latest news from the studio, special offers, and subscribers will be entered in a drawing to win an original artwork!***

As always, paintings shown here are available for sale in my Etsy shop. Clicking on the image should take you right there.
