looking for spring

On a recent fine spring afternoon we took a drive up to the Parkway looking for a different perspective. At the Raven Rocks overlook we were able to notice the almost imperceptible signs of spring just beginning to be visible in a softening of the tree branches.

My paintings of late have been inspired by the changing season in response to color and to the variable spring weather.
Picture
And by the changing light. Longer days, brighter afternoons with lengthening shadows lingering later into the evening have influenced what happens on my canvases.

After the Rain, acrylic on canvas, 12 x 12 inches
Spring thunderstorms have been frequenting our Southern mountains, leaving behind a diffused, misty light.
Picture
And of course the color of spring, so eagerly anticipated with an arrival in fits and starts and gone much too soon.
The paintings featured in this post are now available in my Etsy shop, BlueBird Hill. Clicking on the image should take you right there.

It is so cool to see these photos alongside your abstract work!!! I can totally see where the inspiration comes from! I just got back from spending the day with mom and dad and we went sketching at Daniel Boone Gardens. Boone is behind in spring blooming but still lovely. A great day!! I'm loving your new work Ann!
