The only consistency with my painting process is that I like to mix things up. Changing up the process helps me keep things fresh. In this way new challenges are presented, and there are new problems to be solved.
Yet, there do seem to be cycles.
Sometimes I will revisit elements from the past but approach them in a new way.
With some paintings I want to see just how much I can add to the surface, while with others I am more interested in what I can take away and still have a painting that works with what I want to say.
I like to establish something fast on the surface, with no intent, and then take my time responding to what presents itself.
What questions are being asked? What is required to be answered and which questions are better left alone?
What is consistent about my painting process is that I do respond best when a challenge is presented - something to figure out, a problem to solve. That is what keeps me interested. That is what keeps me coming back.
If you would like to keep up with my art and see more about my painting process I invite you to follow along on Instagram, where I post frequent updates from my studio.
As always, works shown here are available in my Etsy shop. Clicking on the photos should take you right there.
